Questions and answers

How the SPIN L folds, what it is made of and which parts you can replace yourself — answers to the most common questions about the folding hard-shell case.

Folding and packing

How does the case fold?

The shell geometry lets the case fold down evenly, from full packed size to flat. Unfolded it holds 120 litres at 75 × 50 × 32 cm. Folded it is 35 litres at 75 × 50 × 12 cm. It takes seconds: open the main zipper and fold the shells together.

Why does the main zipper have to be open when I fold it?

The case only folds with the main zipper open. Closed, the fold geometry holds the two shells rigid against each other — that is what makes it a solid hard-shell case in transit.Forcing a fold with the zipper closed works against that geometry and can damage the case. Open the zipper first, then fold.

How do I pack it?

Open the case, then open the two zipped dividers that hold the load in each shell. Pack as you would any hard-shell case, then close the dividers so nothing catches in the main zipper. Closed, the dividers protect the contents and add stiffness to the shells.

Where do I store it when it is folded?

Folded, the shell is 12 cm deep — 35 litres instead of 120. It fits under a bed, in a wardrobe, behind a sofa or on a shelf. Twelve centimetres of clearance is all it needs.

Why does it come with a protection sleeve?

The sleeve does two things. The elastic fabric keeps dust and scratches off the shell, and the built-in elastic band holds the folded case flat. It is included.

On the move

Does FOLDPACS SPIN L meet airline size rules?

Unfolded, the case measures 82 × 50 × 33 cm including wheels and handles. That is achecked-luggage size, not cabin baggage. Airlines set their own limits, so check with yourcarrier before you fly.

How do the wheels run?

Four 60 mm double spinner wheels, ball-bearing mounted and maintenance-free. The diameter is large enough to roll over thresholds and thick carpet.
If a wheel is ever damaged, the complete wheel and housing unit comes off via five external screws and can be replaced in minutes.

Where do I take hold of the case?

Four recessed carry handles sit on the long sides. They are made for lifting a full case with two people, or loading it in and out of a vehicle.

How does the trolley handle work?

The top of the case carries two more grips and the telescopic trolley handle — the KombiGriff, a combined carry-and-trolley design protected by registered utility models (2024 and 2025).Both top grips pull out by 6 cm. Press the slide button under the trolley handle and it extends 27 cm for wheeling the case. Press it again to retract.

How does the TSA lock work?

The case has a TSA-approved combination lock with a three-digit code you set yourself. A lock on any suitcase is access control, not theft protection — luggage is built from light materials, and no lock changes that. What it does is make access harder and show you whether someone has been inside. Customs officers hold coded master keys and can open and relock a TSA lock without damaging it; after an inspection they usually leave a note in the case. If anything is missing or has been added, contact the authorities.

Materials, care and parts

Is the design protected?

Yes. Registered patent “Faltbarer Rollkoffer und Lenkrolle”, 2024. Registered utility models for the KombiGriff handle, 2024 and 2025. FOLDPACS is a registered trademark, 2025. The case is designed in Munich.

How much does it hold, and what does it weigh?

120 litres unfolded and 35 litres folded. The case weighs 5.4 kg.

What is the shell made of?

Injection-moulded polypropylene with webbing-reinforced hinges.

Does it cope with rain?

The shell, the hinge webbing and the main zipper are water-repellent. That covers rain on the way to the terminal. It does not make the case watertight - do not treat it as a dry bag.

Are the zippers durable?

Yes, every zipper on the SPIN L is a YKK - the Japanese manufacturer whose zips are the standard for most luggage and outdoor equipment.

How do I clean it?

Wipe the shell with a damp cloth and a little household cleaner. Do not use solvents or aggressive cleaners on the polypropylene shell. The lining lifts out for cleaning or for repairs. Wash it by hand in lukewarm water only - hotter water may shrink it.
